Meier, Dorothy (21 Jul 1852 - 23 May 1938)

A long and useful life was terminated Monday when Mrs. Henry Meier passed away at her home in the town of Dewhurst after a week’s illness, following a stroke of paralysis.

Mrs. Meier was born in Germany in 1852, being 85 years, 10 months and 2 days old at the time of her departure. She was married to Henry Meier in 1876 and came to America in 1884. After living in Chicago for 9 years, she came to the town of Dewhurst where she had lived for the past 45 years.

One daughter, Minnie (Mrs. Lindsey Murphy), and a grandson, Edward Murphy, survive and live on the home farm, and a step son, Reverend H. Meier, lives at Kankankee, Ill. Mr. Meier died about 24 years ago.

Grandma Meier was known and loved by the entire country side. Her gentle and sympathetic nature and unselfish disposition soothed many an aching brow. The hardships of pioneer days through which she passed left no bitter impressions upon her but rather enriched and sweetened her life.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o’clock Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church of this city of which she was a member. Burial will be made beside her husband in the Neillsville Cemetery, Rev. Wm. A. Baumann officiated the rites.
