Degenhardt, Martin (9 JUL 1870 - 29 AUG 1936)

Martin Degenhardt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Degenhardt was born in Monroe County, July 9, 1870 and died Saturday P. M. at 12:55, August 29, 1936.

Mr. Degenhardt was married to Katherine Baus July 4, 1899 and the have since made their home on a farm in Pelsdorf south of the village of Loyal. He is survived by his wife, six children, Henry of Colby, Leo of Loyal, Margaret and Julia of Marshfield, Frank of Loyal and Alfred at home; and he also leaves twenty-six grand children. One son , Roman, died in 1928.

Mr. Degenhardt, a man much respected by all who knew him, has been treasurer of the Pelsdorf cheese factory for the past four years and a director of the Citizens State Bank for eight years.

Funeral services were held in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, at 9 A. M. Wednesday, Sept. 2nd, Rev. Father Aurit officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Those acting as pall bearers were his four sons, Henry, Leo, Frank and Alfred and two son-in law, Leo and Wm. Michalski. Honorary pall bearers were Thomas Froeba, Clem Esselman, George Weyhmiller, Fred Lakosky, James Colby and Dr. H. H. Christofferson.

In charge of the flowers were Madeline Degenhardt, Martina Michalski, Mrs., Ben Clouse, Mrs. Alex Loos, Mrs. Hugo Stutte, Mrs. Anton Stubing and Mrs. W. Engelbrecht.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs., John McKee and son from Cashton, Mr., and Mrs. Emery Klinkner from LaCrosse, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Degenhardt and family of Colby, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Michalski and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Michalski, Joe Poeppel, Mr. and Mrs. George Buffington, Mr. and Mrs. Wm Rondorf all of Marshfield, Fred and Celia Degenhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
