Witek, John J. (May 12, 1912 - June 22, 2006)

John J. Witek, age 94, of Lublin, died on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Fr. John Long officiated and burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were his great grandchildren: Sherri Hass, Krista Danczak, Melissa Danczak, Justin Makeeff, Craig Haas, Jamie Makeeff, Ryan Danczak and Derek Haas. Honorary Pallbearers were his great granddaughters: Shelly Verbout, Nicole Danczak, Brittany Danczak, Jessica Makeeff and Tiffany Danczak.

Visitation was held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church on Saturday, June 24, 2006 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service, with a 9:30 a.m. parish Rosary service.

John J. Witek was born on May 12, 1912, in Lublin, WI, the son of John and Mary (Swiatek) Witek. He was born and raised on the family farm and received his education in Lublin area schools. John was united in marriage to Bernice Kukula on August 12, 1936 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. They lived and farmed in the Town of Withee until retiring in 1973, at which time they moved into Lublin. After retiring, John was the caretaker for St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery for several years. His wife Bernice died on April 22, 1996. He resided in Lublin until the time of his death.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and had many interests, but especially enjoyed woodworking, traveling, fishing and playing cards.

He is survived by one daughter, Eleanor (Dalen) Makeeff of Thorp; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Peter Wittek (Witek) of Owen and Frank (Shirley) Wittek (Witek) of Withee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice; two daughters: Mary Ann in infancy and Alice Miller; five sisters: Stella Nowicki, Rose Malinowski, Lillian DeSon, Vernie Mitchell and Sophie Latko.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
