Jacques, Duane Henry Louis (November 28, 1928 - March 24, 2006)

Duane H. L. Jacques, age 77, of Greenfield, WI, formerly of Thorp, died on Friday, March 24, 2006 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at St. Bernard-St.Hedwig Catholic Church, in Thorp. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and the burial followed at the St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Thorp Funeral Home, on Monday, March 27, 2006 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Rosary service.

Duane Henry Louis Jacques was born on November 28, 1928 in Port Washington, WI to Arthur and Agnes (Vanderloop) Jacques. As a young child, his family moved back to Thorp, where he received his education at St. Bernard’s Catholic School and graduated from Thorp High School in 1946. Duane enlisted into the U. S. Army and served over seas in Korea. He then attended Superior State College for two years, where he studied chemistry. Duane moved to Milwaukee in the early 1950’s and worked for the U. S. Post Office until retiring in 1984. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling to places such as Alaska and Europe, and spent many winters in Florida. Duane had many interests, but especially loved reading, gardening and playing cards.

He is survived by two brothers; Donald (Elaine) Jacques of Greendale, WI and Tom (Barbara) Jacques of Prior Lake, MN; one sister; Alva Retta Trahan of Baltimore, MD and one brother-in-law Jarl Scheibe of Marshfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Janice Scheibe and by his beloved Scottish Terrier Heather.
