Josephine Kozenka, age 102, of Thorp, died at Oakbrook Health and Rehab, in Thorp, on Monday, November 1, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 4, 2004, at St. Bernard’s/St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Fr. Donald Wilger will officiate and burial will follow in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Josephine Norysiewicz was born on June 14, 1902 in Thorp, the daughter of Peter and Hattie (Zawacki) Norysiewicz. She was raised on the family farm in the Town of Withee and educated in the Thorp area. On July 21, 1919, Josephine was united in marriage to John Kozenka at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. The couple farmed in the Town of Withee until 1954, at which time they moved to Thorp.

Josie went to work at Schmitt’s Bakery in Thorp, where she was employed for 25 years. Her husband, John, died on May 2, 1973. Josie moved to Morgan Plaza in 1973 and resided there until entering Oakbrook Health and Rehab in February of 1998. She was a member of St. Bernard’s/St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church and enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and reading. Josie was a sweet, kind, wonderful lady, who was loved dearly by all that knew her.

She will be sadly missed by one son: Joe (Josephine) Kozenka of Thorp, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Sophie Michur; one son, Wallace, in infancy; one sister, Helen Bartosiewicz; and one brother, Tony Norysiewicz.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
