Zarins, Hilda Lily (March 25, 1919 - October 7, 2004)

Hilda L. Zarins, age 85, of Withee, died on Thursday, October 7, 2004, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen, Wis.

Funeral services for Hilda were held on Monday, October 11, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee, with Reverend Bryan Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Nazareth Lutheran Church Cemetery and grandsons served as pallbearers. Visitation with family and friends was held on Sunday, October 10, 2004, at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Hilda Lily Kalnins was born on March 25, 1919, in Latvia, the daughter of Edward and Alma (Zile) Kalnins. Hilda and Peter Zarins were united in marriage on July 14, 1940, in Latvia and immigrated to the Owen/Withee area in 1951, sponsored by Nazareth Lutheran Church congregation. She and Peter farmed in the Town of Hixon. Peter died February 12, 1983.

Hilda loved the outdoors, walking in the woods and berry picking. She enjoyed her flowers and vegetable garden, and she loved knitting for her family and friends. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.

Hilda will be dearly missed by her family including: three sons, John (Kathy) Zarins of Withee; Elmer (Rose) Zarins of Abbotsford; Walter (Donna) Zarins of Thorp; two daughters Ilga (Donald) Scheuneman of Withee; Lucy (Gary) Tabbert of Withee; twenty grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one brother Robert Kalnins of Latvia.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, two infant sons, Ivan and George Zarins, one granddaughter Wanda Ristola, a brother and a sister.

Maurina Funeral Home of Owen assisted the family with arrangements.
