Halida, Frank, Sr. (December 16, 1926 - June 24, 2004)

Frank Hilda, Sr., age 77, of Withee, died at his residence on Thursday, June 224, 2004. Funeral services were held at the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. Father Marion Talaga officiated and burial followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lublin. Pallbearers were Frank’s grandchildren. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Sunday, June 27, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Frank Halida was born on December 16, 1926, in Welch, West Virginia, the son of John and Mary (Jopa) Halida. He traveled to many states as a young boy, until his parents settled on a farm near Lublin, where Frank was raised and received his education. As a young man, Frank served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Betty Pribbenow, on December 29, 1950 in Chicago, IL. Frank worked in Chicago for a few years, before settling in Clark County, where he farmed in the Town of Hixon and the Town of Withee. He worked at Presto Industry and also worked as a logger, helping to clear-cut the area where Miller Dam is today. His wife, Betty, died on May 16, 1991. Frank was a member of the Lublin American Legion Post #547 and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.

He is survived by four daughters: Jean (Michael) Gustafson of Stanley; Diana Halida of Lublin; Kathy Halida and Elaine Halida, both of Withee; one son Frank Jr. of Withee; six grandchildren: Christopher (LuAnn), Charles (Lori), Chad, Chet, Jason (Nicole), Heather (Chad); three brothers: Stanley, Sr. (Stella) of Lublin; Lawrence (Harriet) of Loyal; Edward (Verna) of Marshfield; and two sisters: Helen Plecko of Eau Claire and Virginia Korpalski of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, one brother Leo and one sister Dorothy Vanderhagen.
