Hallowell, Sidney N. (25 MAY 1859 - 29 JUL 1937)
After having been blessed with good health for most of the 78 years of his life, death came to Sidney Noah Hallowell early Thursday morning, July 29, 1937. .He became ill during the past winter and the last two months was confined to his bed.
Mr. Hallowell was born May 25, 1859 at Rubicon and was the fourth child in a family of eight. The others all preceded him in death.
He was married to Almira Brasure of Hartford, Dec. 17, 1884 and to this union were born 6 children four of whom are living.
In 1905 the family moved to Kansas where they made their home for 14 years. From there they moved to Loyal, residing in the village for one year, then moving to the farm in Unity township where they have since resided. Farming has been his life work and in his younger days he was fond of hunting and fishing and out-of-door life.
His recent illness was borne with patience and seemed ready and willing to go. The funeral was held at the home at 1:30 Sunday P. M. with Rev. Hazel Galbraith officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove cemetery. The large crowd present at the funeral showed the esteem in which he was held by those who knew him.
Pall bearers were Mr. Fred Meachem, Mr. Walter Drake, Mr. Walter Neuman, Mr. Jesse Spieles, Mr. Ed. Morse, and Mr. Albert Davel. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Walter Drake, Mrs. Geo. Drake, Mrs. Lynn Gehrke, and Mrs. Percy Vincent. Music was rendered by Miss Bernice Draper, and Mr. J. R. Colby.
Those from out of town attending were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wilkes and children, Neenah, Mr. Chas. Brasure, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Matteson, Hartford. He is survived by his wife, four children, Mr. Chas. Hallowell, (who together with his family live on his parents’ farm), Mr. Arthur Hallowell, town of Sherman, Mrs. Harold Wilkes (Mabel) Neenah, and Mrs. H. H. Wantland (Irene), Loyal; other relatives and many friends.
