Durham, George F. (2 DEC 1854 - 7 MAY 1928)
George Franklin Durham, son of Alvin and Lucy Durham, was born at Lamont, Jackson County, Iowa, Dec. 2, 1854, and lived there until he was five years of age. The family then moved to Watonwan Co., Minn., where he grew to manhood, and then went to Flandreau, S.D. He was there united in marriage to Miss Dora Briggs, and to this union three children were born. Two children and the wife preceded him in death.
Mr. Durham then came to Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), locating on the farm east of the village, where he developed a fine farm out of the wild land. On Oct. 2, 1892, he was united in marriage with Miss Jennie Presher, and to this union ten children were born; two children died in infancy.
Death came to the subject of this sketch on Monday, May 7, 1928, at 8:00 p.m., after about ten days of serious illness, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Mrs. Jennie Durham, and nine children: Mrs. Frank Fry, Yelm, Wash.; Harley of Lansing, Mich.; Manly of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; Mrs. Fred Leiser of Humbird; George of Rockland; Mrs. Clarence Gooder of Eau Claire; Mrs. Laurence McKevitt of Racine; and Alvin and Angie, at home. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Etta West of Fairmont, Minn., and one brother of Portland, Oregon; and also seventeen grandchildren. At the time of his death he was 73 years, 5 months and 5 days of age.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church last Friday afternoon, Rev. C.F. Klein of LaFarge, officiating. Services were attended by a large congregation of friends, and burial was in the family lot in Mentor Cemetery.
