Smith, Mary (1872 - 20 AUG 1935)

Funeral services are being conducted this afternoon for Mrs. James Smith, 63, whose death occurred on Tuesday afternoon at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls, resulting from an automobile accident which took place early Monday evening. The accident happened at Chippewa Falls.

Mrs. Smith was riding in the front seat of the car with her husband when the automobile driven by Anton Jasper of Chippewa Falls, who was accompanied by his wife, collided with the Smith car. Mrs. Smith was the only person hurt and her injuries were reported to be of an internal nature. Dr. J.A. Kelly, Chippewa County coroner, did not believe an inquest necessary.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith had left Owen early in the afternoon, and visited with their son in Chippewa Falls, and were leaving the city to go to Chetek where they were to attend camp meeting, when the accident took place.

Services this afternoon took place from the home three miles east of the city at one o’clock and from the Rural Union Chapel at two o’clock, Rev. Sigglekow of Withee officiating. Burial took place in Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith leaves to mourn, besides her husband, several children.
