Verhalen, Loretta (AUG 1914 - 14 JAN 1942)

Funeral services were held Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Milwaukee for Mrs. Elden Verhalen, 27, formerly of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), who died Jan. 14, 1942 at a Milwaukee hospital. Death resulted from embolism following an operation for appendicitis. Burial was made in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee.

Mrs. Verhalen, the former Loretta Kitzhaber, was born Aug. ? 1914, in Ryan, Iowa, and came to Greenwood with her parents when she was five years old. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School at Greenwood and graduated with the class of 1932 from Greenwood High School.

She was married June 15, 1940 to Elden Verhalen at Milwaukee, where she resided until her death.

Besides her husband she is survived by her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Lawrence Kitzhaber, Greenwood; six sisters, Mrs. George (Geneva) Stiefvater, Greenwood; Miss Catherine Kitzhaber, Evanston, Ill.; and Dolores, Lorraine, Peggy, and JoAnn Kitzhaber, all at home; and two brothers, Raymond and Bernard, both at home.

Those from Greenwood who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kitzhaber and son, Raymond, and daughter, Dolores.
