William E. Joyce

LOYAL -- William Earl Joyce, 86, of Loyal, died Dec. 25, 2006, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen, Wis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cuddie Funeral Home in Loyal. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Loyal American Legion, Post 175.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was born Aug. 9, 1920, in the town of Weston, rural Greenwood, to William E. Sr. and Vera (Holt) Joyce. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 9, 1942, joining the 77th Infantry, 306th Service Company. He participated in the South Pacific Campaign during World War II, receiving three battle stars for action at Leyte Gulf and Ormoc Bay, Philippines, and Okinawa, Japan. He also received the Bronze Star. He married Olga Kohniak on July 6, 1947 in Lublin. She preceded him in death. He married Alice Hannan on Sept. 3, 1982, and she predeceased him in 1986. William farmed and was employed by Roddis Company in Marshfield.

He survived by his daughters, Helen (Lawrence) Jensen, Spencer, and Dawn (Thomas) Weyer, Greenwood; two grandsons, four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wilbur Joyce, Marshfield, and Walter Joyce, Dayton, Ohio.
