Gummerson, John ((17 MAY 1872 - 1 FEB 1937)

Funeral services for John Gummerson, Sr., who passed away at the Marshfield Hospital, Monday, Feb. 1, 1937, were held at the Finnish Lutheran Church on Thursday, Feb. 4. Rev. Carl Tamminenen officiated at the ceremony. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery. The pallbearers included Emil Haaya, Otto Hakola, Matt Arola, John Nisula, Henry Puro and Charles Kangas.

John Gummerson was born in Finland May 17, 1872, and at the age of 19 years came to America and went to work in the mines at Ishpeming, Mich. On May 5, 1894, he was united in marriage to Anna Johnson and to this union were born five children, John, Jalmer, Arvid, Henry and Olive. In 1912 they moved to a farm in the town of Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.), where he has made his home until taken ill recently, after which he had undergone treatment at the Marshfield Hospital.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Matt and Gilbert Johnson of Rhinelander; Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Johnson of Green Bay; Mrs. George Hamlin of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Nick Eilo, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bay of Iron Belt.
