Hollenbeck, Lona (9 May 1870 - 7 Nov. 1940)

Funeral services for Mrs. Elmer Hollenbeck were held at the Medford Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 10, Rev. Longendorf, pastor of the M. E. Church, officiating. Interment was made in the Yolo Cemetery at Chili.

Mrs. Hollenbeck passed away at her home in Medford, Thursday afternoon, November 7, at the age of 70 years, five months and 28 days, a few hours after the passing of her sister, Mrs. Maude Hartley of Soldiers Grove, Wis., in Richland County.

She was born in Richland County May 9, 1870, to Archibald and Ruth Wanless, her maiden name being Lona Wanless. She grew to womanhood there, being married to Elmer Hollenbeck of Rockton, Wis., November 10, 1888, at Richland Center. Later the couple lived for a time at Viroqua until 1903, when they moved to Chili. Here they resided on a farm until 1911. At that time they moved to Medford where she resided until her death.

Nine children were born to this union, two of whom preceded their mother in death. AN infant son died in 1901 and a daughter, Minnie, passed away in 1906.

She is survived by her husband and seven children; Mrs. Julia Toptine, Neillsville; Hazel A. Hartman, Medford; Ada L. Becker, DeSoto; L. Esther Hugh, Thelma M. Hodge and Lorraine R. Hirsch, all of Medford, and a son, George Hollenbeck, Phillips. She is survived also buy three grandchildren, Hildgarde Toptine, Neillsville; Marilyn Hodge and Corad Hirsch, Medford.

Mrs. Hollenbeck was a member of the Methodist church of Medford and of the Woman’s Relief Corps of that city. Her six sons-in-law, Jack Hartman, Erich Hug, W. F. Becker, W. W. Hodge, N. F. Toptine and Gerald Hirsch acted as pallbearers.

Those who came a distance to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Sharron Hollenbeck, sons, Darrel, Orville, Raymond and Stanley, and daughter, Ina, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Markee, Mrs. Chas. Rush and Leslie Fulmer, LaFarge, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kent, Humboldt, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. *** Rest Cut off.
