Hokenson, John (10 Sept. 1858 - 19 Dec. 1940)
John Hokesnon, pioneer resident of this city, passed away at his home Thursday, Dec. 19, at the age of 82. He had been ill since last May with complications arising due to his age.
He was born in Christiania, Norway, September 10, 1858, coming to America 61 years ago when he was a young man about 21 years of age. He was a stone mason by trade. During the logging days he spent the winter seasons in the woods. Since advanced years no longer permitted him to work, he was kindly cared for by his children, who allowed him to come and go at will. Clark County had been his for over 50 years.
He was married to Carrie Wallen of Neillsville, Wis. Five children were born to them, namely: Clara, Mrs. A.; Scholl, Kansas City, Mo.; Henry, Green Bay; Mary, Mrs. Frank Beckman, Antigo; Alma, Mrs. Walter Dangers, Neillsville; and Minnie, Mrs. Bernard Reinhart, Green Bay, all of whom were here for the funeral, which took place at the Schiller Funeral Home, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, with Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery. Mrs. Hokenson passes away two years ago.
The pallbearers included Wheeler Forman, William F. Hemp, Arnold Yankee, William Willsmann, Arthur Kunze, and Darrell Cummings.
