A special term of the circuit court of Clark county was called at Neillsville last Monday by Judge Bailey to try thre case of the State vs James McCann, for killing A. L. Owens, in the town of Lynn, in that county two years ago. It was expected that a long and tedious trial would follow, but by consent of Dist. Atty. Sturdevant, defendant was allowed to withdraw his plea of not guilty and plead guilty to mansluaghter in the fourth degree and Judge Bailey sentenced him to one year and nine months in the state prison. Attorney Frawley of Eau Claire assisted by Attorney MacBride of Neillsville, were retained by defendant. McCann is about 25 years old, has a wife and one child. Sheriff Campbell passed through here on his way to Waupun, with McCann, on Wednesday evening.
