Carl Sanders Lost From Ship on Lakes

Disappeared Soon After Beginning Work for 1941 Season

Sherwood - Carl Sanders, once a resident of this region and brother of Mrs. John Eggen of the town of Sherwood, has been lost from a boat in Lake Michigan. He was evidently swept away, presumably in a storm. Nobody saw him when he was overcome and carried away. He was missing from his station, and of course the body was not recovered.

Mr. Sanders was a fireman on a vessel plying the Great Lakes. He left home April 14, as was his custom each spring to take up his summer’s work. The tragedy occurred, it is known, between Milwaukee and Sheboygan.

Carl Sanders spent his boyhood in the Pittsville country. Born in 1898 in Vernon County, he moved into the Sherwood Country about 25 years ago. There he lived until his marriage in 1932 to Lila Markee. Since then he has resided on a farm in La Farge, Wisconsin.

Carl Sanders is survived by his widow and 5 year-old son, his mother and three sisters, including Mrs. Eggen of Sherwood, and two brothers.
