Schmitz, Otto (9 MAY 1919 - 15 OCT 1944)
Otto Schmitz, son of Joseph and Catherine (Lindner) Schmitz, was born in the town of Eaton (Clark Co., Wis. on May 9, 1919. He grew to manhood here and attended St. Mary’s School. Seven years ago he developed a heart ailment, from which he never fully recovered and which was the cause of his sudden death.
He passed away at the home of his mother on Sunday morning, Oct. 15, 1944 at 10:30 o’clock having reached the age of 25 years, 5 months and 6 days.
A Requiem High Mass was sung on Wednesday morning, Oct. 18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rev. J. Novak officiated and he was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Catherine Schmitz of Greenwood; his father, Joseph Schmitz, Sparta; one brother, Hubert, and five sisters, Mrs. Jack (Cecelia) Bertz, Mrs. Joseph (Josephine) Herr, Greenwood; Mrs. Pete (Kathryn) Hefner, Chicago; Mary Ann and Carol at home, his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Anna Lindner, who is 82 years old and a host of other relatives and friends.
The pallbearers were Francis Herr, Donald Kocher, Robert and Frank Lindner, Al and Donald Bushman.
Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schmitz, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schmitz, Mrs. Al Belkey, Mrs. Delbert Schmidt, Joseph Schmitz, Sparta; Joe Schober, Mrs. Wm. Richette and daughter, Margaret, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schober, Tomah, Mrs. Peter Hefner, Chicago.
