Rowe, Grace (13 Aug. 1880 - 13 Oct. 1941)
Mrs. Grace E. Rowe passed away suddenly at her home in the town of York, Monday, October 13, of heart failure. Although Mrs. Rowe had not been well for years, her death came as a shock to her family and friends for she had made a trip to Neillsville Saturday and was about the house most of the following day.
Mrs. Rowe was born August 13, 1880, in the town of York, making her home there all her life except for about fourteen years when she lived in Neillsville, Wis.
She was married on the 27th day of August, 1902, to Ernest Rowe of her home township. Three daughters were born to them: Irma, Mrs. Everett Pepper, Manhattan, Ill.; Isla, Mrs. Leland Bandelow and Fern, Mrs. Herbert Borde, both of Neillsville, Wis.
Mr. Rowe died April 13, 1919, the widow moving to Neillsville that fail to give her daughters the advantage of a high school education. She lived here until 1933 when she returned to the home farm to keep house for her brother, George Mortimer, after the death of their mother, Mrs. Stella Mortimer.
She is survived by her daughters, eleven grandchildren and by three brothers, Jesse, Ray and George, all of the town of York.
Mrs. Rowe lived an exemplary Christian life. She was ideally efficient as a homemaker, warm hearted and generous toward her neighbors and friends. Although frail in health she never complained, preferring to suffer in silence rather than ask assistance or inconvenience ever the members of her own family. All through life Mrs. Rowe cheerfully performed the duties which fell to her.
The funeral was held Wednesday at the York Center Church, preceded by brief services at the Jaster Funeral Home at 1:30, Rev. Orlando Jewell performing the rites. Interment was made in the York Center Cemetery beside her husband.
