Cooper, Mary A. (14 JUL 1857 - 27 DEC 1936)
Mrs. Mary Cooper. Mary Alice Pease, daughter of Samuel Ephriam and Lucinda Love Pease, was born in Indiana on July 14, 1857. When she was four years of age, her parents moved in a covered wagon to Iowa and settled near Marshalltown. When eighteen years of age, Mary Alice was married to John Ormerod, and they lived on a farm in Crawford county, Iowa. Six children were born to them, two of whom, Mrs. Raymond French, Dubuque, and Mrs. Floyd Dunham, of Marshalltown, survive.
In 1889, she was left a widow by the death of her husband, John Ormerod, and five years later she was united in marriage with Joseph H. Cooper, of Marshalltown. Two children were born to this union, Mrs Ortus Channells, of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Joseph Newton Cooper, of Humbird.
While a resident of Marshall county, Iowa, she was for many years the efficient and faithful superintendent of the Pleasant Valley Sunday school.
She came with her husband and son to Garden Valley, in 1918, residing there until the death of Mr. Cooper, on Jan. 14, 1931. They then moved to the farm south of town, where she passed away about ten o’clock Sunday morning, Dec. 27, 1936, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 13 days.
Funeral services were held at the Free Methodist church in this village Tuesday afternoon, Rev. A. E. Knaak officiating, and were attended by many neighbors and friends. All of the four children who survive where present, and also eight grandchildren. Burial was in the Alma Center cemetery.
Card of Thanks. We, the children mourning the loss of our mother, do sincerely express our thanks for the many acts of kindness from all, the singing, the flowers, the Mrs. Stuve family, our neighbors, and also the Rev. Knaak for his words of comfort.
Mrs. Raymond French, Mrs. Floyd Dunham, Mrs. Ortus Channells, Joseph Newton Cooper.
