Rau, Henry C.G. (28 Nov 1858 - 31 DEC 1930)
Henry Carl George Rau was born Nov. 28, 1858 in Mequon, Ozaukee Co. and died on Wednesday, Dec. 31st, 1930 at 6:00 a.m. at his farm home. At the age of 18 Mr. Rau went to North Prairie, Waukesha Co., where he engaged in the trade as wagon maker. On the 28th of November he was united in marriage to Miss Louise Turner, also of North Prairie. Later the happy couple moved to Sullivan, Jefferson Co., and after a short stay there, they came to the village of Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.). In 1909 Mr. Rau moved out on a farm in the Town of Holton where he remained till the day of his death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Evangelical Peace Church with Rev. J.R. Kalwitz officiating.
Henry Rau was among those who came here when Dorchester was young and did his bit in making this a community one would enjoy living in. And even after he moved into the country he was always interested in Dorchester and her people.
He leaves a host of friends who will miss his fine friendship and mourn with the family his loss.
The deceased leaves behind his wife, two brothers, Wm. Of the town of Mayville, and Louis of Cedarburg, Wis., five sons, John of Dorchester, William of Portland, Oregon, Charles of Trout Creek, Mich., and Henry and Willard, both of the town of Holton., and one daughter living in Mitchellville, Maryland. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren.
