Rieder, Emma (6 Nov. 1863 - 2 Oct. 1937)

Mrs. Emma Rieder passed away at Luther Hospital, in Eau Claire, Saturday evening, Oct. 2, 1937, at 6:10 o’clock. She was born at Boltigan, Canton Bern, Switzerland, on November 6, 1863, being 73 years, 10 months and 26 days in age at the time of her death.

Miss Emma Zeller, together with five sisters, grew to young womanhood, in Boltigan, where her parents, Fred and Sophia Zeller, resided. In 1883, she with one of her sisters, Louise, immigrated to America, and located near Monticello, this state.

At a double wedding ceremony, April 24, 1884, she was happily united in marriage to Robert Rieder, at New Glarus, Wis. To this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy.

In 1909, Mr. and Mrs. Rieder, moved to a farm west of Humbird, where they lived until 1923, when they retired to their home in this village.

In April 24, 1934, Mr. and Mrs. Rieder were fortunate in being able to celebrate their golden wedding, with their children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on Sept. 8, 1936.

The deceased was confirmed in Switzerland, and has since been a member of the Reformed Church. For the past twenty-five years she has been a member of the Ladies Aid Society of St. John’s Reformed church of this village.

She leaves to mourn her death, four sisters; Mrs. Sophia Rhyner, Marshfield; Mrs. Louise Regez, Blanchardville; Mrs. Bertha Marty, Monroe; and Mrs. Elise Theiler, Humbird; three sons, Robert, Herman, and Ernest, farmers of this vicinity; two daughters, Mrs. Freda Bleiler, and Mrs. Emma Laffe, both of this village, and twelve grandchildren.

The funeral was held at the Reformed Church Tuesday afternoon and burial was made in Mentor Cemetery, Rev. V. D. Weidler officiated. Many friends and relatives attended this service.

Out of town relatives and friend who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Ernest Regez and daughter Mrs. Oscar Olson, Blanchardville; Edward Regez, Plymouth; Blassie Rhyner, Oswald Rhyner, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rhyner, Mrs. Otto Hine, Marshfield; Mrs. John Schindler and son Robert, Stevens Point; Mrs. Jesse Tubbs, Eau Claire; Mrs. Fritz Ehrensperger, Herman Laffe, Mrs. Fred Rieder and daughter, Mary, Madison; Miss Ethel Reider, Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. August Regez, Hixton; Miss Mamie Bleiler, Mrs. C. Tennler, Mrs. M. Pagel, Monroe; George Rolph, Monticello; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Bleiler, Postville.
