Gurney, Lucy L. (3 JUN 1876 - 18 FEB 1932)
Friends from here (Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.) were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Lewis Gurney, who passed away at her home at Munroe, Mich., last Thursday, Feb. 18, 1932. Death was due to acute diabetes, from which Mrs. Gurney had been suffering the past year.
The remains were shipped here and funeral services were held from the George Tischendorf home Tuesday afternoon with Rev. L. Thiel officiating. Burial was made in the cemetery 3 miles north of town on 13 with Ed Hamberger, Frank Stevens, Henry Stevens, Charles Lindboe, Robert Schmidt and Adam Schneider acting as pallbearers.
Lucy Lovina Higgins was born June 3, 1876, at Hicksville, Ohio, and was 55 years, 7 months and 15 days old at time of death. At the age of 18 she moved to Stetsonville with her family to make their future home. On Nov. 24, 1900, she was united in marriage to Lewis Gurney at Stetsonville. To this happy union eight children were born. On Nov. 7, 1923, Mr. Gurney passed away and two years later Mrs. Gurney moved to Munroe, Mich., with her five youngest children, were she had since resided.
She is survived by her eight children, Archie Gurney, Janesville, Wis., Mrs. Mary Whiteside, Chicago, Ill., W. George Gurney, Terre Haute, Ind., Donald, Joseph, Nellie, and Eulia, Munroe, Mich., and Mrs. Florence Tischendorf, Dorchester, one brother, Robert Higgins of Erie, Pa., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Chapman, Corinth, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Johnson, Carl, Harvey, Stanley and Helen Donaldson of the town of Molitor.
All the children with the exception of Archie, who could not be located, and Mrs. Tischendorf, were at Munroe before the remains were shipped to Dorchester, Wis. Donald Gurney accompanied the remains here as it had been Mrs. Gurney’s last wish to be buried beside her husband and parents.
The many friends join the Clarion in extending sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the mourning ones.
