Everett C. Hirsch, 60, city superintendent of schools of Wausau, for the past 12 years, died at St. Mary’s Hospital, Wausau, Friday morning, July 19.

Mr. Hirsch suffered a fracture of his left hip in a fall down his basement stairway last January and had been in the hospital most of the time since. He contracted a respiratory ailment in the spring and he also suffered from a heart condition.

Mr. Hirsch was a widely known educator throughout the state and since he started his duties in Wausau in 1934, when he filled the vacancy left by the resignation of S. B. Tobey, he has introduced many new educational practices which helped to raise the standards of the Wausau school system, Wausau educators said.

Mr. Hirsch was born in the town of Scott, Sheboygan County, and spent his boyhood in Marathon County. He was graduated from the high school in Unity in 1904 and Colby, Wis. High School in 1905. He was graduated from the Oshkosh Normal in 1909 with a bachelor of philosophy degree. He later attended the University of Wisconsin, where he received his master of philosophy degree.

He was married to Miss Emelyn Cook in Unity June 15, 1912. She died exactly two years ago, the date Mr. Hirsch passed away. He was married to Miss Florence Olmstead in Fremont, Mich. June 9, 1945.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Donald E. Hirsch, Washington D.C. and Allen S. Hirsch, Pittsburg, Pa.; a brother, C. J. Hirsch, Abbotsford, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, from the First Universalist Church at Wausau with burial taking place at Colby.

Among those from here who attended the funeral at Wausau were Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Cook, W. E. Cook and the Misses Anna and Mayme Yahr. Those attending the graveside services were Ed Diethman, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Diethman, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Vogt and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Langjahr.
