Kanter, Elizabeth (25 Sept. 1874 - 9 Sept. 1947)

Mrs. Nick Kanter, a former resident in the Town of Colby, who lived 2 miles north and 1 mile east of here passed away last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter Hasenorhl, Colby, after an illness of 2 ½ years.

The body was at the Lulloff Funeral Home where a rosary service was held last Friday evening and a Requiem High Mass was read Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, the Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating. Burial was made in Colby.

Mrs. Kanter, the former Elizabeth Miesen, was born at Kaukauna Sept. 25, 1874, and lived there until moving to Marshfield with her parents when she was 12 years old.

After her marriage to Nick Kanter at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield June 16, 1896, the Kanters moved to a farm in the Town of Colby, living there until they retired in the spring of 1939 and moved to the City of Colby. The Kanters observed their golden wedding anniversary last year.

Surviving are nine children, Herbert, Unity; Clement, San Bernadino, Calif.; Mrs. Edward (Alta) Kohlbeck, Grand Rapids, Minn.; Mrs. Peter (Odelia) Hasenorhl, Colby; Mrs. Edward (Marina) Cleary, Hartford, Mich.; Mrs. Robert (Marcella) Carberry, Lodi; Mrs. Joseph (Olivia) Zinthefer, Marshfield; Mrs. Harry (Lucine) Benjamin, Pomona, Calif.; and Mrs. Harold (Odalia) Baumgart, Colby. A son, Reuben, died Dec. 28, 1921.

Also surviving are 27 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Frank Cramer, Harrisburg, Ore.; and two brothers, Matt Miesen, Marshfield; and Henry Miesen, Fond du Lac.
