Newton, Margaret Eva (Marriage - 26 June 1934)
The marriage of Miss Margaret Eva Newton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Newton, and Mr. Stephen Tichy, was solemnized at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, June 26th, in the M. E. Church at Alma Center. The Rev. Geo. Vaughan read the double ring ceremony, and the wedding march was played by Miss Eunice Johnson, of Merrillan.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white bridal satin and a long veil fashioned in cap style, with a spray of seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and baby breath.
Miss Joyce Fensky, a cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a gown of pea green silk and carried a bouquet of roses. Misses Fern Barkley, of Humbird, and Lois Belle Johnson, of Merrillan, were bride’s maids, and were attired in pink organdy and carried bouquets of pink roses and ferns. Winnie Jane Newton, flower girl, strew rose petals on the path of the bride. She also wore pink organdy.
Ellsworth Newton was best man, and Louis Tichy and Kenneth Newton were ushers.
Preceding the ceremony, Merton Rice, of Alma Center, sang, "I Love You Truly," and "Oh, Promise Me," and Miss Helen Vaughan sang, "Because!" They were accompanied at the piano by Miss Eunice Johnson.
A wedding supper was served at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Newton, in Garden Valley. And a wedding ball was held at Oakland Park in the evening.
Two happy prenuptial events were showers given the bride, one on Thursday evening attended by nearly one hundred young friends, and one Friday evening attended by the cast of "Looking Lovely," presenting as their gift a beautiful mirror. Many useful and beautiful gifts were received by the bride.
Mr. and Mrs. Tichy will be at home to their many friends at Neillsville after July first.
