Hayes, Augusta (17 FEB 1857 - 23 MAY 1933)

Mrs. J.J. Hayes died at her home in this village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) on Saturday, May 23, 1933. She was born in Fond du Lac County on Feb. 17, 1857 and had reached the age of 76 years, 3 months and 3 days. On Jan. 17, 1878 she was united in marriage with J.J. Hayes and during the following October she moved with her husband to Clark County, locating on eighty acres of land in the town of Hixon, now the town of Reseburg (Clark Co.), then a wilderness. Together they made a fine farm home until May 1909 when they moved to their present home in this village, where they have since resided. Deceased was a patient sufferer for several years past with a complication of ailments.

She was a very active member of the M.E. Aid for several years and also a regular attendant at the M.E. Church services, until no longer able to do so.

She leaves to mourn, her aged husband, J.J. Hayes, and two daughters, Mrs. Anton Lauer of Chippewa Falls, and Mrs. Jerry Asselin, Jr. of Thorp; also two grandchildren, Mrs. Otto Berg of Chippewa Falls and Eunice Asselin of Thorp, and two great-grandchildren, Lois and Eugene Berg of Chippewa Falls.

Funeral services were held a the M.E. Church on Tuesday afternoon, May 23rd, Rev. James Irish officiating, interment following the services in the village cemetery, the following acting as pallbearers: John Boie, Henry Leibole, Victor Solie, John Roth, Mike Kronberg and W.E. Barrett.
