Purkis, Ed (25 May 1885 - 9 Jan. 1950)

Mr. Ed. Purkis died at his home in Oak Park, Ill., Monday night of a heart attack.

Mr. Purkis is well known in Unity, having lived here until his early manhood when he started working on the railroad in Chicago.

He married Miss Kate Smith from this vicinity, who with his aged mother, Mrs. Laura Purkis, three sons and two brothers, Clyde of Unity and Frank of Chicago and four grandchildren, survive him. His father, one brother, William and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Jacobson, preceded him in death.

Mr. Purkis was soon to have been retired from the railroad, having nearly reached the retirement age.

Mrs. Elsie Willmare left Wednesday for Oak Park to attend the funeral Thursday.

*** Note: Mr. Purkis’ date of birth is from his World War I draft registration card.
