Schwantes, Donald A. (7 Mar. 1907 - 25 Aug. 1988)

Donald A. Schwantes, 81, Neillsville, Wis. died at 7:37 p.m. Thursday at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Neillsville, with the Rev. Thomas LaChapelle officiating. Music will be provided by Wilbred Galstad, soloist, and Iris Musil, accompanist. Burial will be in the Neillsville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Travis, David and William L. Schwantes, Lance Plummer, Floyd Short and Willard Matson.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, and until 11:30 a.m. Monday.

He was born March 7, 1907, in Unity, to William F. and Frances Schwantes. He graduated in 1927 from Unity, Wis. High School and attended Barbers College, Minneapolis.

He married Evelyn C. Siverston June 12, 1933, in Auburndale. She survives. He was a barber for several employers until opening his own barber shop in Neillsville in 1933, which he operated until retiring in 1969.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the Neillsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Richard of Marina Del Ray, Calif., Terry of Bloomington, Minn., and Jeff of Burnsville, Minn., and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Walter and Maynard, and a sister, Ermine.
