Hmielak, Helen F. (July 31, 1910 - July 5, 2006)

Helen F. Hmielak, age 95, of Oak Brook, IL, formerly of Thorp, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Prospect Heights, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Inurnment will follow in new St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery.

Helen F. Hmielak was born on July 31, 1910 in Thorp, WI to Joseph and Mary Hmielak. She was raised on the family dairy farm and received her education at Sterling School and Thorp High School. Following high school graduation, Helen attended Milwaukee Business College and then returned to Thorp to work in the payroll department of the Blue Moon Cheese factory. During the depression, she moved to Chicago in search of employment. Helen worked for the State of Illinois Labor Department for 37 years and retired in 1976.

She is survived by one sister, Cecile (Edward) Bohaboy of Mt. Prospect, IL and was a loving aunt to13 nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Ann and Agnes; and two brothers: John and Edward.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
