Last Saturday, June 5, 1897, at 7 p.m. Fed Hillyer ceased breathing, and with his breath went the pain that has racked his frame for many months. His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Sturdevant, in this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) after an illness of some six months. The funeral was held Monday afternoon with Odd Fellow ceremonial, at the M.E. Church, Rev. G.N. Foster preaching.
He was an American nobleman, upright and fair in all relations of life, a Union soldier during the war, an honored veteran and an Odd Fellow of the highest degree.
He was born in Northamptonshire, England, June 11, 1829, and came to America in 1847. He first located in Salem, Racine Co., and afterwards resided in Sheboygan Co. He came to Clark County in 1888 and settled in Pine Valley. He had been living with his son-in-law, J.E. Sturdevant for the past two months. He leaves a wife, four sons and three daughters to mourn his loss. They have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction.
