Meyers, August Joseph (17 Sept. 1865 - 28 Jan. 1935)

August Joseph Meyers, a prominent Abbotsford business man, died Monday morning, Jan. 28, in the Marshfield hospital. Funeral services were held from the home in Abbotsford Wednesday, Jan. 30th, at 1:45 and from the Presbyterian church at 2:00, Rev. L. Smith officiating, and internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. Active pall bearers were Paul Waech, Walter Jackson, F. Wing, J. McCabe, W. Daley, C. Hoffman. Honorary pall bearers were Owen Hughes, F. Stoughten, Alex Ireland and Tom Gibson.

The deceased was born in New York City Sept. 17, 1865. The family went to Weyauwega, Wis., when he was two years of age at which place he resided until he came to Abbotsford in 1882 and was in association with R. L. Roter in the general merchandise business in which place of business he continued until his death. The business bore the name of Meyers & Chase but for the past twenty-seven years he owned the business alone. The deceased was of a kindly, congenial disposition, inheriting all of the hospitable and gentle qualities of the early pioneers and his passing will be greatly felt in the community.

Mr. Meyers is survived by two daughters and one son, namely: Mrs. Pearl Hamblin of Downers Grove, Ill., Mrs. Margaret Johnston of Menasha, Wis., and Mr. Don Meyers of San Diego, Cal. Also two sisters and one brother: Mrs. C. Thompson and Mrs. A. Breitengross of Phillips and Mrs. George Meyers of Tacoma, Wash. His wife, Alice Meyers, preceded him in death by two months and eleven days.
