Hickman, Joseph #2 (1 NOV 1860 - 10 APR 1937)
Mr. Joseph Hickman passed away April 10th, 1937 at the home of his son, John, after a five weeks illness. He had attained the age of 76 years, 5 months and 9 days.
Joseph Hickman was born in the town of Memee, Manitowoc Co., Wis., Nov. 1st, 1860, where he grew into manhood. On Dec. 2nd, 1885, he was united in marriage to Francisca Meyer, who preceded him in death, Aug. 23rd, 1936. To this union were born four children, three of whom mourn his loss. They are: John of Thorp; Katherine, Mrs. F.J. Bradle, Reseburg; and William of Reseburg. Also five grandchildren, and one brother, Christ Hickman of Sheboygan, Wis.
In his early manhood he worked in the logging camps of Clark County, which at that time was a virgin forest. Mr. Hickman and his family establish their home in the village of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), May 6th, 1890. In 1899 they moved onto a farm located in the town of Reseburg, residing there until the Spring of 1928, when they again returned to the village of Thorp, where he made his home until the time of his death.
Mr. Hickman was a good friend and neighbor, a kind and indulgent father, and it was in his home that his true worth was most conspicuous. When conscious that he was nearing the last on earth, the Christian faith sustained him and the final gloom of death was dispelled by the radiance of God’s love.
The funeral services were conducted from St. Bernard’s Church, on Tuesday morning by Rev. A.M. Muckerheide, interment following in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
May he rest in everlasting peace.
The pallbearers were: Stanley Mazurek, Theodore Broeren, Jacob Smith, Thomas Vander Wegen, Anton Velcheck and John Roth.
