Stroota, Arnold (21 Nov. 1886 - 1 Jan. 1937)

Arnold Stroota, partner in the Stroota-Steiber hardware company in Colby, passed away at the Marshfield hospital at one o’clock January 1st, an ear infection being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic church Tuesday morning, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery, Colby, Wisconsin. Pall bearers were Arthur Hemmy, Jr., of Colby, Joe Steinwand of Colby, Alfred Schneider of Marathon, George Small of Tomahawk, Frank Steiber of Marathon, Gust Hoeft of Abbotsford, Wis. Honor bearers were Ambrose Steinwand, Arthur Hemmy, Sr., G. C. Kersten, Conrad Niggemann and Nick Baer of Colby and Jake Allar of Dorchester, Wis. Flower carriers were Regina Tesmer, Verdean Robinson, Rosemary Steinwand, Virginia Steinwand, Francis Sukup, Rose Sukup and Bobbie Reeves.

The deceased was born in the town of Holton, Marathon county, November 21st, 1866, thus reaching the age of fifty years, one month and ten days. He grew to manhood on the farm. In 1912, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stroota, disposed of their farm, and, that year, he and his father entered the hardware business at Abbotsford, Wis. In 1919 the business was moved to Marathon which he conducted with his father and brother, Oscar, several years when he moved to Reedsburg. After being in business there a short while he moved to Colby, and, in company with Roman Steiber, purchased the Zillmann hardware store in Colby. He lived in Colby for seven years.

Mr. Stroota was married to Miss Elizabeth Hall on June 15th, 1921, at Marathon. He is survived by his widow, his mother, Mrs. Margaret Stroota of Colby, three sisters, Mrs. Clara Decker of Dorchester, Mrs. Corine Keene of Chicago and Miss Roseline Stroota of Chicago and a brother, Oscar Stroota, of Marathon. Also an aunt, Mrs. Hattie Davis, and an uncle, Casper Henk.

Out of town relatives and friends here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. H. Kronenwetter of Mosinee, Miss Lora Heburg of Baldwin, Mr. George Small of Tomahawk, Gust Hoeft and Ed. Hoeft of Abbotsford, John Hall, Julius Hall, Rudolph Hall, Mr. and Mrs. John Jogardenske, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Manzer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Steiber, Mrs. Helen Minzer and Albert Schneider, all of Marathon.

The deceased was a faithful member of the Catholic church and took a keen interest in local activities, He served as supervisor of the second ward for two terms. He was of a kindly and friendly disposition and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
