Johnson, Harold (19 APR 1886 - 25 SEP 1937)

Funeral services were conducted from the Griebenow-Weirich Funeral Parlors Tuesday for Harold Johnson, who died a sudden death Saturday, Sept. 25, 1937, of heart attack. Rev. P.F. Pfaffman officiated. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.

The chapel of the funeral home was filled to capacity and many individuals seated in the auditorium of the chapel, heard the service by means of the amplification system.

Immediately following the chapel services a Masonic service was held at Riverside Cemetery with Past Master L.W. Cattanach reading the interment ceremony.

Masonic pallbearers at the services were E.W. Kidd, L.W. Bulgrin, V.F. Schereda, T.S. Larson, Lawrence Munson and A.M. Wilson.

After the Masonic service a military service took place in which the flag was presented to Mrs. Harold Johnson, after which a salute was fired and taps sounded.

Harold Johnson was born April 19, 1886, at Badger Mills, and came to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1894 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Johnson. He received his education in the Owen schools, and then moved to Bloomer, where he owned and operated a plumbing and heating shop. While in Bloomer, he met Miss Alma Shipman, to whom he became united in marriage on Aug. 4, 1914.

Mr. Johnson enlisted in the United States Army during the World War, on Feb. 4, 1918, at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He became sergeant of the 18th company, 3rd regiment, air services mechanic. He served in active duty overseas for 17 months before returning to the United States. He was discharged honorably from Camp Grant, Ill., July 12, 1919.

A few years after the war Mr. and Mrs. Johnson returned to Owen, where they made their home. Harold was employed by the Owen Box & Crating Co. as master of the dry kiln, and in recent years has been employed as superintendent of the yards.

Mr. Johnson was very prominent and active in Legion work, having served two one year terms as commander of the local Van Huizen post. He was also a member of the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts and a member of the local and county Conservation committee.

His father, Louie Johnson, died in Nov. 1936. Besides his wife he is survived by his two sons, Norman, 14, and Harold, 11; his mother, Mrs. Louie Johnson, Owen; his sister, Clare of Reno, Nev.; his brothers, Otto of Forks, Mont; Carl of Mellen, and Edwin of Delta.
