Wehling, Wilhelmine (2 Aug. 1856 - 23 Dec. 1939)

Mrs. Wilhelmine Wehling (nee Lehmann) died Saturday, Dec. 23, 1939, at the age of 83 years. The cause of her death was old age and its complications. For the past two years she has made her home in the village and much of that time she had been ill. For part of that time she lived with the Albert Schroeder home but for the past few months she had lived at the Chas. Rahm home where her death occurred.

The deceased was born in Germany, Aug. 2, 1856. When a young woman (in her 20's) she emigrated to the United States, going directly to Dodge Co., where lived relatives and friends who came from Germany. Soon after her arrival, she was united in marriage with Frederick Wehling — the wedding taking place on Feb. 17, 1881. They came to Clark County shortly after their marriage. Choosing a farm in the vicinity of Spokeville for their home, they lived the life of the industrious farmer of pioneer days, making a comfortable home from undeveloped farm land.

To them were born seven children, four of whom preceded their mother in death. There were three sons Robert, Wilhelm, and Earnest, and one daughter, Mrs. Agnes Rhode.

Three children survive Mrs. Wehling, two sons, Otto of Hartford and Gust of Chili and one daughter, Mrs. Anna Nork of Redfield, S.D. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Wehling's husband died Jan. 6, 1933.

Funeral services were held in the Trinity Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock Tuesday Dec. 26. Rev. J. C. Langholz officiated and she was buried by her husband in the Loyal cemetery.

Pall bearers were Henry Meier, Oscar Ratzburg, Wm. Loppnow, Ernest Kresselt, Albert Schroeder and Chas. Gilroy. Mrs. August Rahm and Mrs. J. Henseler, Sr., were in charge of the flowers. A memorial wreath was dedicated for missions, in memory of the departed, by friends. The music was furnished by the choir.

Relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mrs. Anna Nork, Redfield, S. Dak., and Mr. and Mrs. Gust Wehling.
