Kobs, Frederick William (25 Mar. 1871 - 25 Apr. 1938)

Frederick Wm. Kobs, a resident of this community for sixty-two years, died at his home in Colby, Wisconsin at 12:30 a.m. April 25th, pneumonia and other ailments being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. Mr. Kobs suffered a paralytic stroke ten years ago but recovered sufficiently to be up and about. About ten days ago, he contracted pneumonia and suddenly passed away.

Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran church this Thursday afternoon, April 28th, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

He was born at Oakwood, Milwaukee county, Wis., March 25th, 1871, thus reaching the age of sixty-seven years and one month. He came to this locality with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kobs, in 1876, and was married to Miss Marie Meinke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meinke, Nov. 8, 1899. At that time, he had charge of the Colby dray line and later was employed at the Colby box factory until he suffered a stroke.

He is survived by his widow and five children, namely - Edna Kobs of Colby, Mrs. Magdalena Jorgenson of Milwaukee and Norman, Harold and Selma Kobs of Colby. Also two brothers and two sisters - Julius Kobs of Colby, Henry Kobs of Milwaukee, Mrs. Minnie Bleichroth of Colby and Mrs. Fred Grambort of Colby. There are also five grand children.

The deceased was a kind and indulgent husband and father, a faithful member of Zion Lutheran church and an industrious worker.

Funeral services for Frederick Wm. Kobs, whose death was reported last week, were held at Zion Lutheran church last Thursday afternoon, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were George Kobs, Fred J. Kobs, Hugo Kobs, Norman Kobs, Gilbert Grambort and Everett Grambort. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Elsie Purkis, Mrs. Fred J. Kobs, Elsie Witte and Erna Meinke.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kobs of Milwaukee, Mrs. Herman Kobs of Unity, Mrs. Ray Hudson of Unity, Mrs. Elsie Purkis of Unity, Hugo Kobs of Granton and Mr. and Mrs. Gust Hoeft of Abbotsford, Wis.
