Hinkes, Anna (25 Mar. 1859 - 1 Feb. 1939)
Funeral services for Mrs. Matt Hinkes, who died suddenly of a heart attack last week Wednesday afternoon, were held at St. Mary’s Catholic church Saturday morning, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment was made at Milwaukee in Holy Cross cemetery Feb. 7th. Pall bearers were Nick Baer, C. Joe Kraus, L. W. Frane, Con Niggemann, Emil Pokallus and Joachim Miller.
She was nearly 80 years old, being born March 25th, 1859, at Menasha, Wis. On Feb. 26th, 1880, Anna Fuchsgruber was married to Mathias Hinkes of Leroy, Wis. To this union two children were born, Lydia Staffney of Milwaukee and L. M. Hinkes of Clinto, British Columbia, Canada. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, one daughter, one son, four grand sons and one grand daughter. Also two sisters at Menasha and one brother at Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Hinkes came to this locality 54 years ago and located on a track of land in Marathon county, three and one-half miles northeast of Colby. This piece of land consisted of 80 acres and was all wilderness with the exception of seven acres that was cut over. By hard work and privations, they built a splendid farm. This farm is now owned by M. Schwinn of Beaver Dam.
Mrs. Hinkes was a very faithful member of her church. She was a true wife, mother, friend and neighbor and very devoted to those she loved.
Out of town relatives for the funeral were John Hinkes of Appelton, Mrs. Matt Hoffman of Wausau, Mrs. Robert Zimmer of Stevens Point, Mrs. Elizabeth Duwara of Waupaca, Mrs. Ed. Braun of Athens. Emil Weix of Medford, Joe Weix of Stevens Point, Lydia Staffney of Milwaukee, Helen Staffney of Milwaukee. Her sisters of Menasha and one grand son, James Staffney of Columbus, Ohio, attended the funeral services at Milwaukee.
