Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kottke, Rochester, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Johnson, Eau Claire, spent a day or so the middle of last week with the G. C. Eggleston family. Mrs. Kottke is Mrs. Eggleston’s sister.

Mrs. Matter Scherer is spending a few weeks with her husband and with friends in Milwaukee and West Bend.

Misses Marion Kuhl and Arlene Gerhardt have returned home from Los Angles, Cal., where they have been employed for several months.

Miss Hilma Embretson, who was employed in Neillsville from Stanley Thursday and Friday to visit among friends. She accompanied her sister, Mrs. Emmett Chatut, of Stanley, who attended Mattson family.

Mrs. Bert Hester and granddaughter, Charlene Callahan, arrived here last Wednesday from Sioux Falls, S. D., to visit relatives and friends. On Thursday Mrs. Hester and the little girl and Mrs. Paul Skroch left on a trip to Neenah, Menasha and West Bend visiting the Edwin Bast’s at the latter place.

Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Ballhus of Grand Rapids, Mich., are spending a few weeks with her brothers and sisters and their families, Mrs. Ben Thoma, Mrs. Nolie Blau, Ollie and Nick Linster.

Private Romauld Schmidt was home from Jefferson barracks, Mo., for several days last week, visiting home folks. He started on the return trip Wednesday, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kurth, who visited in St. Louis for a short time, returning home Friday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larsen and son and her mother of Chicago are spending ten days here with relatives. They were present at a gathering at the home of his brother, Soren Larsen, held in observance of the ninth birthday of Lois Larsen, on Thursday evening.

Robert Wilsmann returned home Thursday after spending four weeks with his father and with other relatives and friends in Milwaukee.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Georgas left last Wednesday on a trip to Grand Marsaias, Minn., to fish and to rest at Clear Lake.

Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Van Holde of Rock Falls, Wis., arrived last Wednesday for an over-night visit at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Swenson, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Will Olson of Whitehall also were guests of the Swenson family last Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Fay C. Peters, Milwaukee, arrived here Saturday afternoon to spend the weekend with his brother, D. E. Peters, and family. The guests were on their way to the northern lakes on a vacation trip. Mr. Peters is head of the accounting department for a large manufacturing concern in Milwaukee.

Judge and Mrs. Charles Gilman of Friendship arrived here Friday to spend several days with his sister, Miss Emil Ketel, and husband.

Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Wilding received a message from her son, Ira Williamson, last week giving the information that he had arrived safely in Fairbanks, Alaska, having gone there by plane from Seattle, where he has a government position as a shortwave radio operator.

John Roberts left Friday for ST. Paul where he has accepted a position. He will continue in the work part time after the opening of Macalester College, where he is a student.

Mrs. Charles Imig of Rudolph, Wis., has been a patient at the hospital at Wisconsin Rapids for the past ten days, receiving treatment and was, therefore, unable to attend the funeral of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Amelia Maxson, which was held here last week.

W. F. Kluhsman and son, Roland left for Watertown, Friday where they will be employed for the balance of the canning season.

Mrs. M. Lastofka, daughter, Miss Doris, and son, Robert, spent Thursday and Friday with relatives at Eau Claire and Milwaukee.

Mrs. Belle Buttefield spent several days last week in the home of her aunt, Mrs. Nettie Wightman, of Pine Valley Township. She was a guest at the meeting of Mrs. Wightman’s Sewing club.

Mrs. John Wolff returned home Saturday from Chetek where she spent several days with her son George Wolff, and family.

Miss Dorothy Imig left Saturday for Milwaukee to spend a couple of weeks with her aunt, Mrs. Werner Mattson, and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dethloff drove up from Milwaukee last week to get Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmacher and daughter Flora, who spent a week at the Mrs. M. Lastofka cottage at Lake Arbutus.

Mrs. P. M. Warlum, son, Elliot, and his wife and son, Mike, drove to Marshfield Sunday to visit Mr. Warlum who is gaining nicely at the hospital after a few weeks of illness.

Mrs. Ben Wagner and grandchildren, Eugene and Joan, spent last Thursday and Friday with the former’s daughter, Mrs. Gordon Thur, and her family at Fairchild.

Dr. Sarah Rosekrans and Wells F. Harvey drove to Eau Claire Sunday afternoon to bring Dr. Milton Rosekrans home from the hospital where he had been receiving treatment for a foot condition. The trouble is clearing up nicely although he is not yet able to walk.

The condition of the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Linton Jahr of the town of Washburn has been encouraging during the past week after a long period of illness. Since no blood transfusions have been necessary during the week and the little fellow has gained nine ounces, hopes for his recovery now are more certain.

Mrs. Asa Darling, Milwaukee, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. George Shummel of Pine Valley and other relatives in Neillsville and vicinity for a time, planned to returned home his week.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Robinson were home from Eau Claire for a weekend visit.

Thorwald Christofferson of Juneau drove up Saturday night to get his wife and daughter who spent two weeks at the home of her mother. Mrs. Jake Schiller, Mr. and Mrs. William Hughes and William Schiller also made the trip with Mr. Christofferson to spend the weekend with relatives.
