Sturdevant, Nettie (7 Nov. 1864 - 18 Oct. 1942)

Mrs. Nettie Bacon Sturdevant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Bacon, died from a heart attack on October 18, 1942, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Marian Bacon King, in Vashon, Wash., near Seattle, where the funeral was held.

Mrs. Sturdevant was born in Neillsville, Wis., Nov. 7, 1864, and was the last member of a family of eight.

She is survived by three children, Brig. Gen. Clarence L. Sturdevant, Washington, D. C., Hugh H. Sturdevant of Cudahy, Wis., and Mrs. Viola (Sturdevant) Drummond of Florida.

Mrs. Sturdevant was loved by her associates in school who became her life long friends.

She was a lover of good music and was ever ready to give her fine voice in entertainments arranged by the local musical groups.

She left Neillsville for Portland, Ore., about 1910, where she made her permanent home.

While Mr. and Mrs. George Zimmerman were visiting their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Nourse, and baby in Los Angeles, Calif., last July, they arranged a meeting and had lunch with Mrs. Sturdevant and another former Neillsville resident, Miss Alice Huntley, at Portland and found Mrs. Sturdevant much as they had known her when she lived in Neillsville some 32 years ago. She was alert and eager to talk with the visitors about the folks and happenings "back home."
