Schmitt, Frank (15 Dec. 1876 - 20 Dec. 1940)

Frank Schmitt, former resident of the town of Hull, died at the Memorial Hospital at Wausau, Wis., on Friday, December 20th, at the age of 64 years and five days. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment was made in the parish cemetery. Pall bearers were Ernest Gierl, Peter Apfelbeck, C. Joe Kraus, I. M. Firnstahl, Joe Kunze and Ed. R. Schultz. Nieces of the deceased, Marcella and Mercedes Schmitt, were in charge of the flowers.

The Catholic Order of Foresters, of which Mr. Schmitt was a member, attended the funeral in a body.

Mr. Schmitt was born at Leroy, Wis., Dec. 15th, 1876, and came to Colby with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schmitt. On Oct. 8, 1880, the family settled on the farm in the town of Hull now occupied by Alphons Schmitt, brother of the deceased. Mr. Schmitt was united in marriage to Margaret Dolan of Mellen, Wis., on October 27, 1914. Four sons were born - Henry (age 25), Cecil and Sylvester (twins age 18) and Arnold (age 15).

Besides his widow and children, the deceased is survived by four brothers and three sisters - Peter of St. Paul, Robert and Alphons of Colby, John of Milton, Oregon, Susan of Colby, Mrs. Ed. Haebig of Marshfield and Mrs. Peter Kaiser of Stratford, Wis.

The deceased was a kind neighbor and friend to all who knew him. He had been engaged in farming for many years in the town of Hull and since June had been employed at the Rilling fox farm near Wausau, Wis.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mrs. Ed. Schmitt, Marcella and Alex Schmitt of Athens, Misses Naomi, Carmen and Mercedes Schmitt of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Peterson of Abbotsford, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Peter C. Kaiser of Stratford, Mrs. Ed. Haebig and sons, Francis, Matthew, Bernard and son Clarence of Marshfield, Mrs. Golden and son, Peter, of Abbotsford, Wis., Walter Peterson of Abbotsford, Wis.

I am an grandaughter of Frank Schmitt my father was Sylvester (Schmitty) and would like any information I could get on my family. I only knew one uncle and that was Aronld (Smokey), any help would be greatly apperciated.
