Stigsen, Elsie (14 MAY 1883 - 21 SEP 1939)

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Sept. 25, 1939, from the Danish Lutheran Church at Withee by Rev. J.A. Holst, for Mrs. Jens Stigsen, 56, who passed away at the Marshfield hospital Thursday, Sept. 21, after a short illness.

Mrs. Stigsen, nee Elsie Nielsen, daughter of Mrs. Peter Quist, was born on May 14, 1883, at Humbolt, Ia., where she resided during her early childhood and received her schooling. Later her parents moved to Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) where she has since made her home, being a pioneer of the community. On Aug. 25, 1916, she was united in marriage to Jens Stigsen, which union was blessed with one child, a son, Thorvald.

Mrs. Stigsen had been in good health until he past ten days when her illness made it hard for her to get about the home and do her work. Three days before she passed away she was admitted to St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield, where she passed away. She was always active in the community doings of Withee and especially so in her church work. She had been a member of the Danish Lutheran Church since early childhood and in late years was very prominent in the Danish Sisterhood Lodge.

Floral offerings were many and beautiful, all of which showed her numerous friends throughout the community.

Her passing is mourned by the community and her many friends besides the relatives who survived her included a sister, Mrs. A. Atkinson of St. Paul, Minn., her mother, Mrs. Peter Quist; two half brother, Stephen and Hans Quist, and her family.
