Dahnert, Mr./Mrs. Albert (Silver - 1942)

The silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dahnert, which occurred Dec. 18, was celebrated at the home where the couple began housekeeping upon Mr. Dahnert’s return from services overseas in May of 1919. The Rev. William A. Baumann conducted appropriate services for the occasion, after which the group, which included twenty friends, played cards. A lunch, which was brought in by the visitors was served after cards. Mrs. Archie Van Gorden baked a lovely wedding cake, which was greatly enjoyed by the couple as well as by their guests.

Mr. and Mrs. Dahnert were married at Waco, Texas, Dec. 18, 1917, by Captain Gustav Stearn, a chaplain serving during World War No. 1, both in the United States and overseas. The Dahnert’s have in their possession a book which was written by Captain Stearn after the close of the war in which the author mentions the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Dahnert as the second ceremony which he performed at the Waco camp. The book, entitled "From Army Cap and Battle Field," gives the army experiences of Captain Stearn, chaplain of the 127th Inf., 32nd Div., A. E. F. He now serves as chaplain at the Soldiers Home Chapel, Wood Co., Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Dahnert have three children, Sgt. Robert Dahnert, Camp Barkeley, Texas; Miss Betty, Milwaukee, and Miss Eileen at home. Robert the eldest was born while his father was overseas, the son being eight months old when Mr. Dahnert first was privileged to gather the little boy into his arms. Only the younger daughter, Miss Eileen, was present for the 25th Anniversary celebration.
