Rail Crossing Crash Fatal to Withee Child
Withee--Cathy Sorenson, 11 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Sorenson, Withee, was killed Sunday when a Milwaukee Road passenger train swept her from the bicycle she was riding at a downtown crossing in Mauston, where the family had been visiting friends.
Juneau County authorties said the girl was tossed 206 feet from the point of impact. She had been riding with other children who reportedly had cleared the tracks before the train reached the crossing. Authorities said signal lights were working at the time.
Services for Cathy will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee with the Rev. H. W. Luetkenhoelter officiating. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home in Owen from noon Tuesday until noon Wednesday, and then at the church.
Cathy was a sixth grade student at the Owen-Withee School, and a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church at Withee, Wis.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a half-brother, Jack Leibke, Minneapolis; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Axel Sorenson, Withee; and her maternal grandfather, Joe Goetthelf, St. Paul, Minn.
