Sorensen, Victoria L. (9 July 1905 - 11 Dec. 2005)

Victoria Sorensen

Victoria L. Sorensen, age 100, longtime town of Delmar resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2005, at the Rosewood Villa Retirement Center in Thorp, Wis., with her family by her side.

A Christian burial Mass will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley, Wis., with Fr. Robert Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday evening, December 14, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Victoria was born July 9, 1905, in the town of Colburn, Chippewa County, the daughter of John and Anna (Sliwka) Ziemba. She grew up in the Colburn area and attended area rural schools. She was then united in marriage to Hans C. Sorensen on June 25, 1924, in Chicago, Ill. After their marriage they resided and farmed in the town of Delmar, retiring in 1968 and moving into Stanley. Victoria was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Parish where she attended Mass daily before moving into Rosewood Villa, belonged to the Catholic Women’s Club and the P.C.C.W., and will be remembered for leading the rosary for many visitations throughout the years. She also enjoyed having a large garden and shared it with everyone, and spent many hours knitting, especially mittens for her grand and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of the Brownsville Homemakers Club.

She is survived by her children, Dolores (Jim) Ernst of Midlothian, Va., Rosanne (Earl) Dorn of Stanley, Raymond (Violet) Sorensen of Stanley, Richard (Carol) Sorensen of Little Lake, Mich., and Victor (Darla) Sorensen of Eau Claire; 38 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Helen Sorensen of Boyd and Dorothy Sorensen of Stanley; and one sister, Anna Ecklor of Thorp.

She was preceded in death by her parents Anna and John Ziemba; and stepfather, John Skwierczynski; her husband, Hans C. Sorensen; sons, Jack and Hans L. Sorensen; daughter, Roselle Sorensen; sisters, Mary Folczyk, Catherine McQuire, Helen Ocytko, Clara Rudawski and her identical twin, Rose Tonon.

Plombon Funeral Service, Stanley, Wis., is assisting the family with arrangements.
