Richard G. Baird

Richard G. Baird, 93, Marshfield, entered eternal life Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at House of the Dove.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hewitt. The Rev. Dean Pingel will officiate. Sally Becker will provide music for congregational hymns. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard's grandsons, Daniel, Darwin and Derek Baird, Ben Budtke, and David and Jeffrey Holzbauer.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hansen Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Richard was born April 20, 1912, in Clarence, Iowa, a son of George W. and Mabel (Dewell) Baird. He attended the Riceville, Iowa Elementary School. His family moved to Neillsville when Richard was 7, where he attended Deep Rock School in the town of Levis. In his youth, he farmed and did carpentry work with his father, and also worked at the B&F Machine Shop in Neillsville, Wis.

In 1944, Richard moved to Marshfield and began working at Felker Brothers Manufacturing. He continued his employment there until his retirement in 1978.

On June 27, 1946, Mr. Baird was united in marriage to the former Mildred A. Wunrow. She preceded him in death April 10, 1985. On March 9, 1987, Richard married the former Geraldine (Hauser) Orlander.

Richard was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hewitt, serving faithfully on the Church Council and Building Committee. He was a member of the 25-year Club of Felker Brothers, enjoyed fishing, hunting and dancing, and was known to take an occasional trip to Rainbow Casino. His greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Baird is lovingly survived by his wife, Geraldine; children, Donald (Nancy) Wunrow, Fort Wayne, Ind., Gary Baird, Marshfield, Douglas (Jan) Baird, Arpin, Dennis (Shirley Stangl) Baird, Marshfield, Jerilyn (LeRoy) Budtke, Hewitt, and Bonnie (John) Holzbauer, Grove Port, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Jeff Wunrow, Kristin McGee, Daniel and Darwin Baird, Dawn Mereles, Derek Baird, Dana Fischer, Amy and Ben Budtke, and David and Jeffrey Holzbauer; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mike and Adeline Wunrow, Lester and Irene Wunrow, Ann Wunrow and Millie Wundrow; numerous step-grand- and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews further survive him.

Besides his first wife and parents, Richard was preceded in death by a brother Delbert; and three sisters, Mildred Meyer, Esther Crocker and Grace Budde.

Memorials in Mr. Baird's name may be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hewitt.
