Ven Rooy, Magdalene (4 July 1885 - 8 Apr. 1943)

Funeral services for Mrs. Peter Ven Rooy, who died last Thursday morning of a heart ailment and complications, were held at the St. Bernard’s Catholic church at Abbotsford Saturday morning, Rev. Francis Brockman officiating, and internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Duellman, Wm. Bogaard, Wm. Beil, Vernon Steffen, Fred Dietsche and Clarence Dolan. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Tony Stevitlick, Mrs. Leo Hilber, Mrs. Joseph Orth, Miss Mary Schommer, Miss Virginia Kriplean, Miss Virginia Firnstahl, Miss Patsy Beil and Miss Shirley Olson.

Mrs. Peter Ven Rooy, whose maiden name was Magdalene Schommer, was born at Atlantic Mine, Houghton county, Michigan, on July 4th, 1885, thus reaching the age of 57 years, nine months and four days. She received her education at Fredom, Wis., and while there she was a member of the church choir and where she was married to Peter Ven Rooy on Nov. 22, 1905.

After their marriage, they operated a farm in Little Chute, Minnesota, for four years and then bought their farm in the town of Hull and lived there for 29 years. Three weeks ago they sold their farm and moved to Abbotsford, Wis.

She is survived by her husband and the following children: John of Rockford, Ill., Lambert and William of Milwaukee, Norbert of Abbotsford, Mrs. Thurman (Cecelia) Denson of Madison, Mrs. Anton (Magdalene) Schjonneman of Unity, Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Miller and Miss Josephine Ven Rooy of Rochelle, Ill., Mrs. Victor (Harriet) Boss, Mrs. Russel (Gertrude) Stevens, Miss Rose Ven Rooy and Harold, all of Abbotsford, Wis. Also three sisters and four brothers - Mrs. Carl Johnson of Abbotsford, Mrs. Inar Olson of Dorchester, Mrs. Albert De Bruin of Kaukauna, Bernard Schommer of Colby, Casper Schommer of Ventura, Calif., Lambert Schommer of Marshfield and Ray Schommer of Kaukauna. An infant daughter, Rita, a brother, John, and a sister, Mary, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ven Rooy was a member of St. Bernard’s Altar Society of the St. Dorothy circle and a faithful member of the Catholic church. She was of an industrious and home-loving disposition and under all circumstances always endeavored to perform her obligations to the best of her ability.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Raymond Schommer, Mr. and Mrs. Albert De Bruin, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin De Bruin and Mrs. Gerald Smith, all of Kaukauna, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Schommer of ***Note: The rest of the article was not available at the time of transcription.
