Dorothy Nelson

WHITEHALL — Dorothy C. Nelson, age 88, of Whitehall, died on Friday, January 13, 2006, in the Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall.

Dorothy was born on May 28, 1917, in Thorp, Wis., to Corliss T. and Floy E. (Wingad) Colby, Wis. Dorothy married Bennie O. Nelson on March 23, 1940.

Dorothy attended grade school to fifth grade in Thorp and then moved to Eau Claire where she finished grade school and graduated from high school in 1934. Dorothy graduated from college in Eau Claire in 1937, and taught school for 26 ½ years, mainly first grade, prior to her retirement in 1979.

Dorothy was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, its WELCA, Delta Kappa Gamma (Professional Women’s Educators), Eastern Star, Tri-County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Women’s Club.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Karen (Gerald) Larson of Eau Claire and Kathryn Nelson of Altoona; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Anne Nelson of Whitehall; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Colby of Pleasantville and Agnes Colby of Osseo.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; two brothers, Bernard and Grant; and a sister, Alice.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2006 at the Jack Funeral Home with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery, both in Whitehall. Pastor Jon Becker will officiate.

Friends may call from noon until the time of services at the funeral home on Saturday.

Memorials may be designated to the BTIAW Special Olympics or Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church radio broadcast.
