Reyer, Emma (7 Mar. 1860 - 2 Nov. 1943)

Adam Reyer, age 91, and his wife, Mrs. Emma Reyer, age 83, both residents of the city of Colby since 1920, died within 15 hours of each other at their home, the former at 9:00 o’clock Monday night and the latter Tuesday noon. The bodies are at the Lueloff Funeral Home where services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock.

Mr. Reyer was born in Germany on June 5, 1852, and came to the United States with his parents when he was three years old, settling in Sheboygan county. At the age of 21, he went to Illinois where he worked for four years and then went to Upper Michigan where he worked another four years. He was married to Emma Reich on Sept. 10, 18?1, in the town of Wilson, Sheboygan county, after which they came to this community and purchased a farm near Cherokee where they lived for 39 years. Since 1920, they lived in Colby, Wis.

Mrs. Reyer was born in the town of Wilson, Sheboygan county, on March 7th, 1860.

Surviving are six sons and three daughters - Hugo Reyer of Chevy Chase, Md., Otis Reyer of Barrington, Ill., Harold Reyer of Wauwatosa, Richard Reyer of Two Rivers, Carl and Edward Reyer of Colby, Mrs. F. M. (Emma) Distelhorst of Madison, Mrs. Morris (Madeline) Rein and Mrs. Rose Oncken of Colby, Wis. Two children, Olive and William, preceded them in death. Also surviving are 13 grand children and one great grand child. Mrs. Reyer also leaves one brother, August Reich of Sheboygan, and two sisters, Mrs. Carl Brehm and Mrs. Jennie Schmidt, both of Sheboygan.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Reyer are pioneers of this community, coming here when this was still mostly woodland. By hard and diligent work, they built a splendid farm. They always walked in the well-beaten path of righteousness, were honest in all their dealings, were kind and indulgent parents, and congenial neighbors and friends. Their life work was done and well done.

Double funeral services were held for Mr. and Mrs. Adam Reyer at the Lulloff Funeral Home Friday afternoon, Rev. S. Paul Nulton, former pastor of the Methodist church in Colby, now residing at Pepin, officiating. Internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were six sons - Edward, Carl, Otis, Harold, Hugo and Richard Reyer.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Reyer and children, Danny and Karla, of Two Rivers, Lt. Col. and Mrs. Fred M. Distelhorst and son, Fred, of Madison, Otis H. Reyer of Barrington, Ill., Hugo Reyer of Chevy Chase, Md., Harold B. Reyer of Wauwatosa, Gustave Moenning, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Jessler and Arthur Gartmann, all of Sheboygan, Wis.
