Volkmar, William Henry (8 Jan. 1873 - 19 Feb. 1944)
William Henry Volkmar of Abbotsford, Wis., died Saturday morning at 3:00 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elsie Herrmann, in the town of Colby, Wis.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the farm home in Abbotsford at 1:30 o’clock and at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. D. Grether officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery.
Mr. Volkmar was born in Germany on Jan. 8, 1873, and was married to Elizabeth Uhlig at Colby on August 30, 1900. He came to the United States from Germany when he was seven years of age and later settled in the town of Colby where he lived until he retired in 1939 when he moved to Abbotsford, Wis.
Surviving besides his wife are six children, Mrs. Alfred (Elsie) Herrmann of Colby, Mrs. Herbert (Malinda) Neuhaus of Colby, Mrs. Alvin (Florence) Thede of Curtiss, Oscar Volkmar of Abbotsford, Mrs. William (Emaline) Thede of Abbotsford and Miss Alfrieda Volkmar of Owen, Wis. Also 20 grand children, one sister, Mrs. Anna Lehrman of Marshfield and one brother, Carl Volkmar of Canada.
The deceased was of a congenial and hospitable disposition, a kind husband and father, honest in all his dealings, a good Christian and neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him.
